CO2 calculation
Last October Infodis and a delegation of its customers have discussed CO2 emissions and the calculation in particular. Based on the responses Infodis has taken the first steps to make CO2 calculation possible within Infodis. In order to do so we have been introduced to the Technical University Eindhoven (TU/e).
A group led by Professor J.C. Fransoo has done a lot of research on how to calculate emissions and which protocol should be followed. This research group is the only one in the world, together with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), which has combined research on logistics carbon dioxide emissions with empirical data and validation. They have found the NTM protocol (http://www.ntmcalc.se/index.html to be the most effective standard. This protocol has been preferred above the GHG (Greenhouse Gas) protocol as GHG only has 1 truck type and only works with tonne km.
Infodis is about to sign a license agreement with the TU/e for using and maintaining the emission calculation routines. Within the next few months we will make this function operational within Infodis. At a slight increase of the shipment fee you can get a pretty accurate estimate of the CO2 emission of your shipments.
